Autonomous Sinixt MOU

On Friday, February 4th, representatives of Autonomous Sinixt signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre. The Museum commits to protect and preserve cultural assets and share traditions from the Autonomous Sinixt perspective. The partnership includes the Museum becoming a "Designated Repository" for the care, storage, and possible display of Sinixt artefacts, contemporary objects such as works of art, and other materials.

Rekindle the Spirit of Christmas

It's that time of year again! We're excited to see Rekindle taking over Rossland again this Saturday, December 4th.
Here at the Museum, we'll be participating with a super-special holiday-themed STEAM activity: sleigh engineering! Drop by the Museum between 2 pm and 4 pm to take part in the activity. Prizes going to the sleigh that flies the farthest!
Stop in for some holiday treats and hot chocolate and soak up the spirit of Christmas - open 10-5pm by donation!

Suggestions for July 1 - Canada Day

The ongoing confirmation of unmarked burial sites of children’s remains at the sites of former residential schools in British Columbia and across Canada has prompted a national pause to reflect, learn more about, and support Indigenous communities across the country. The road to reconciliation is long, and there is so much work to be done, and therefore, Museum staff have agreed that it's more appropriate this year to create respectful space instead of filling the sky with celebratory fireworks.

We Are OPEN!

As of June 3rd, 2020, the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre has reopened to the general public.

Important Notes:

  • If you are feeling ill, do not enter the museum

  • Follow specific guidance posted throughout the facility for restrictions in the visitors centre, gift shop, washrooms, etc.

  • Limit of 40 people in the museum

  • Maintain physical distancing 2 metres/6 feet

  • Sanitize hands upon entry & when you leave

  • In case of contact tracing needs, a name & phone number will be required for each party/person

  • Masks are required for indoor access

Rossland Streamkeepers Display

The Rossland Steamkeepers have collaborated with the City of Trail and BCWF to deliver information about a proposed project to decommission dams at Cambridge Reservoir and Violin Lake. A 3D model of the Cambridge-Violin water storage area will serve as an outreach tool to inform the public of this proposed project and gather feedback. The model is on display at the Rossland Museum until Feb 4 2021.

Community Stories - Virtual Museum of Canada

We are pleased to announce an exciting new bilingual exhibit that will be developed with an investment by the Virtual Museum of Canada (VMC). The topic we have selected is the story of the development of ski racing on Red Mountain from the 1890s to the 1980s! This exhibit will be part of the VMC’s ‘Community Stories’ collection and will be available online in 2021. We are excited to share this incredible history and showcase our community and achievements on a national platform.
