February 2026 Speaker Series: “Trouble in the Headwaters” with Doctors & Nurses for Planetary Health
6 pm on Friday, February 20th, 2026
SPECIAL SCREENING! Join the Doctors & Nurses for Planetary Health (DNPH) for a special Speaker Series presentation of Trouble in the Headwaters, this February 20th at 6 pm at the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre.
Trouble in the Headwaters, a powerful 25-minute documentary by filmmaker Daniel J. Pierce, explores the root causes behind the devastating 2018 floods in Grand Forks, B.C. More than 100 families were displaced and millions of dollars were spent on flood infrastructure — yet floods continue to threaten the region. So what’s going on?
The film follows Dr. Younes Alila, a professor of forest hydrology at the University of British Columbia, as he investigates the upstream impacts of clear-cut logging in the Kettle River watershed. With compelling field footage and scientific insight, this documentary reveals how loss of forest cover has triggered a cycle of flooding, landslides, and drought — transforming the landscape and endangering communities downstream.
With an introduction from DNPH and a letter-writing session hosted by their team following the film, it's the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded locals and help protect our home!
