Homegrown: Agriculture in Rossland

Although Golden City Days & the Fall Fair have been postponed this year, Trinda from Curiosity Clothing & Gifts is still letting us take over her window with an exciting fall-themed exhibit! Homegrown explores Rossland's agricultural history and the beginnings of the Fall Fair.

Rossland’s agricultural history dates back to the creation of the town itself. The tradition of growing, raising, and producing food in Rossland began with the Chinese gardeners in the 1890s. Today, family-run operations such as Happy Hills Farm continue to provide Rosslanders with fresh produce. Since 1949, Rossland has held a yearly Fall Fair in September to celebrate the bounty of the region. The Fall Fair continues today, running alongside the Golden City Days celebrations. From its farms and experimental orchards to its dairies, Rossland’s agricultural history is diverse, nutritious, and truly homegrown.

This temporary exhibit features artifacts from Rossland's Chinese Gardens and dairies, the Golden City Fall Fair, and the Trail Fruit Fair. There is also a new area map showing the names and general/approximate locations of some of Rossland's agricultural ventures.

If you know about any of the farming or dairy ventures in Rossland (past or present) we would love to hear from you!

We want to give a huge thank you to Trinda and Curiosity Clothing Gifts for letting us take over the storefront once again and supporting our outreach program!
