Our exhibits focus on Rossland’s social, cultural, and sport history, Consolidated Mining & Smelting Company and industry/geology in the region, West Kootenay Power & Light Co., Rossland/Red Mountain Skiing history, and many other interesting exhibits and photographs depicting the early history of Rossland.

We are located right on the Black Bear/Le Roi Mine site - the designated Kootenay Mining Region National Historic Event site.

We acknowledge that we live and work on unceded Sinixt tmxʷúlaʔxʷ (homeland) and are honoured to support Sinixt cultural resurgence where possible, including some objects/content from the Autonomous Sinixt Repository.

Our Visitor Centre

The Visitor Centre is located at the museum for all visitors' travel information needs. We carry provincial accommodation guides, road maps, travel guides, camping guides, and many other provincial, regional, and local brochures. We also offer a place to rest and relax with coffee/tea by donation and free Wi-Fi. Concession snacks are also available year-round. Accessible Public Washrooms and RV Parking.

Summer Hours (mid-May to August): 7 days a week, 10:00 - 18:00

Tour Times

Outdoor Tours are run daily through the summer. Each tour is approximately 45 minutes, ending with a gold panning demonstration:

The remainder of the year is weather-dependent. Indoor tours may be available in the winter months. Please book ahead.

School/group tours and facility rentals within or outside of regular hours may be available throughout the year. Please contact us for more information.

Admission

Are you a new Canadian citizen? We are a partner and pick-up location for the Canoo program. Canoo is a mobile app that helps new Canadian citizens celebrate their citizenship by providing free admission to over 1400 museums, science centres, art galleries, parks, and historic sites. Canoo is offered by the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, an independent national charity. The Canoo app offers free admission for every new citizen and up to four children, every time they visit, for one year to venues across Canada. If you received your Canadian citizenship within the last year and are over the age of 18, you are eligible for Canoo! The Canoo app is available for free on the App Store and Google Play.

Accessibility

The Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre is committed to providing an accessible environment to visitors of all ages and abilities.

Sensory concerns: Light, noise, and crowds will vary throughout the museum, particularly during events. At peak times, the museum may be noisy. The Rossland Museum and Discovery Centre has two sensory bins available to help enhance the museum experience for young visitors with diverse needs. These bins, sponsored by the Family Action Network and Kootenay Family Place, include a social story about visiting the museum, noise-cancelling headphones, fidget spinners, and other items that will help visitors explore all that the museum has to offer. Please ask our front desk staff for more information!

Service animals are welcome in the Museum (note: leashed, non-service dogs are currently welcome inside the Museum too, and staff can advise caretakers of a service animal on site).

Accessible washrooms, including a gender-neutral, Easy-Peezy-designated washroom, are available free of charge for all visitors.

The Upper Level of the museum is not currently wheelchair-accessible. Our front desk staff can provide tour information about the upper level for visitors unable to see it in person, and a digital tour can be done via our Additional Content page.
