New Additions to the Upper Level Exhibits!
Thanks to funding from the LeRoi Community Foundation and TECK Trail Operations, we’ve been making some changes to improve visitor experiences in our Upper Level displays.
Le Roi Tool Warehouse
The Le Roi Tool Warehouse has four new interpretive panels! The text and accompanying archival photographs explain some of the mining processes that we talk about in our tours. This allows visitors to access much of the same information in and out of tour times.
We’ve also added several archival images showcasing Rossland’s early miners at work.
New Photo Op Interactive
Visitors can now become a Miner for a Moment with our new interactive on the Upper Level. Visitors are encouraged to don a mining helmet (modern or a little more historic) and pose with one of our drills, staged by a large rock with drill holes in it. This is the latest addition to make our spaces more interactive and provide some great photo op moments around the property!
Train Station
We’ve added a new panoramic photo to our model train exhibit in the Train Station! We chose this photo because it was taken from one of the train bridges in Rossland in the early 1900s, so it shows a view of Third Avenue you would have seen from the train. Some of the buildings of note in the image are the British America Corporation Office (built by John J Honeyman, who also designed the Rossland Court House) and the Nickel Plate Mine office and headframe.
This is only the beginning! We’ll continue to make improvements to the visitor experience on the Upper Level throughout the summer and fall, with archival photos in the Fire Hall, interactives in the Fire Hall and Train Station, and a revamped instruction sign for the gold panning area!
