BC Museums Week
May 17th-23rd, 2026
We’re open by donation from 10-6 all week!
For BC Museums Week 2026, the theme is “Museums Matter – From Awareness to Action”
Museums matter to communities in lots of different ways – and we love all the roles we get to play in Rossland! We're a space to visit; a repository for objects, stories, and photographs; a site for exploration and school field trips. We're a visitor information centre, helping tourists find the best hikes and lunch spots. We host community events, providing space for Rosslanders to come together and celebrate local talent. We run programs, offering room for kids to learn and grow, bringing new skills to all ages, or helping to share some of our community members' incredible stories. We hire students and recent graduates, teaching valuable skills like digital literacy, research, and public speaking.
We keep busy here at the Museum – and we wouldn't have it any other way!
Do you appreciate the work we do in our community? Please consider writing a letter to your MLA or supporting us with a donation!
You probably know that the arts and culture sector carries a lot of intangible value – promoting learning, curiosity, community, and more. The economic value of the sector is pretty significant, too! According to StatsCan, the direct contribution of BC’s culture industries to economy-wide GDP in 2023 was estimated at $10.4 billion – and the arts and culture sector generates $29 in economic activity for every dollar of federal investment! As the principal economist for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Andrew DiCapua, noted, “that’s an extraordinary return in addition to the social benefits that the sector generates.”
Here at the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre, we're always working to leverage community contributions to bring more money into the community. In our 2024-25 fiscal year, just 11% of our operating budget came from the City of Rossland – meaning that for every dollar of municipal taxpayer support, we found an additional $9 to contribute to our mission to preserve and dynamically present the history and culture of Rossland and area. Learn more about our operations in our most recent annual report.
