National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

We’ll be open by donation from 10 am to 5 pm on September 30th, 2025 - all donations going to the Indian Residential School Survivors’ Society.

We operate on unceded Sinixt tmxʷúlaʔxʷ (territory).

Stop by to reflect on the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action and explore some of the exhibits we’ve added to our space over the past few years.

  • Explore the new interactive territory map and Sinixt Homeland Exhibit

  • Admire the Sinixt territory sign, which was crafted by a Sinixt artist and member of the Sinixt and Nespelem bands of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, Spirit Peoples, in consultation with Sinixt knowledge-keepers. This hand-carved sign features representations of the traditional story about the mountain goat and the origin of the huckleberry at Kettle Falls. Interested in hearing the story? You can listen to Sinixt Matriarch Taress Alexis share it on our website.

  • Check out our Sinixt basketry exhibit: Gifts of the Ancestors: Crafts & Knowledge of the Sinixt Way, which incorporates stories, crafts, and ancestral baskets entrusted to our care by Sinixt Elders, Matriarchs, and knowledge-keepers

  • Learn more about our local history and post-contact relationships between Sinixt and settlers with our temporary exhibit Sinixt and Colonial Contact: A Campaign of Extinction

  • Check out the picture book Captíkʷɬ t Sw̓ar̓ák̕xən, the Legend of Frog Mountain, as told by Sinixt elder Eva Orr (1910-2006). This was the first book to be published in Snslxcin, the Interior Salish language of the Sinixt Peoples — a dialect on the verge of extinction
