Seasonal Job Opportunities

The following positions may require candidates to meet Young Canada Works or Canada Summer Jobs eligibility. The key eligibility criteria is between the ages of 15 and 30 and legally entitled to work in Canada. Young Canada Works positions require candidates to have been in school.

Seasonal/Temporary:

Some positions are YCW Student positions for full-time secondary or post-secondary students. The remainder are CSJ youth positions (between ages of 15-30).

Museum/Operations Assistants (2 positions)

The Museum Assistants work with all summer staff for the daily opening, operating, and closing procedures associated with Museum operations. There are a number of operational focuses possible for these positions dependent on experience/interest:

  • Working with the Community Engagement Manager for the planning, coordination, and evaluation of the Summer Museum Day Camps for ages 6-12 with themes ranging from science and technology to art and history.

  • Working with the Operations & Marketing Manager for the operation of the gift shop, admissions, concession, and Destination BC Visitor Centre, including sales, inventory, restocking, statistics, etc. Planning and scheduling group visits, tours, and special events as well as routine maintenance, including painting, cleaning, and light grounds keeping, are also aspects of the position as time permits.

  • Working with the Research Manager to develop and conduct summer tours around the property, downtown, etc. and continue to further develop the historical content and audio/visual content associated with these projects.

Archives Assistants (2 positions)

This position will work with the Research Manager, Collections Manager, and trained archives volunteers to focus on some of the key projects that must be completed in the archives and for internal research purposes, programs, promotions, and publications. They will also assist in public research requests, photo orders, incoming archival donations, and the development and maintenance of the public research room. All staff assist in the general operation and maintenance of the museum, archives, visitor centre, and discovery centre, including assisting with major events, and programming.

Research Assistant (1 position)

The Research Assistant will work with the archives staff and volunteers to focus on some of the key research projects that must be completed for upcoming displays, exhibitions, and events, including:

  • Continue research and partnership development for the indigenous history of our region, including a petroform display, a Sinixt oral history audio station, a traditional names map, and an updated programming outreach kit

  • Developing content for online posts associated with new outdoor signage and existing audio/visual content

  • New interpretive panels on key historical characters of Rossland, including associated online content development (i.e. blog posts for each person)

  • Assist in coordinating an ongoing oral history project, including procedure and form review/development

While these positions are intended to begin in summer 2021, they are funding dependent as well as flexible between part and full-time and could start later, including in the Fall if not filled earlier. All summer student position wages are between $15.50-17/hour DOE.
