From the Alpine Club of Canada:
Don Vockeroth maintains to this day that his identity has been shaped by his relationship to mountains. It is by way of this relationship that he knows himself and is known by others. Don has never quit climbing. Moreover, he has continued throughout his climbing career to offer his experiences and enthusiasm as inspiration to others. Beyond his legendary climbing accomplishments, Don was also one of the earliest members of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides. For more than twenty years, he guided every summer at the Alpine Club of Canada’s Annual General Mountaineering Camp. In service to Canadian mountaineering, Don has established a reputation as one of the most experienced guides of his generation. In 1987, Don was made an Honorary Life Member of the Calgary Mountain Club. In 2005, the Alpine Club of Canada and the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides honoured Don as the Patron of the 16th Annual Mountain Guides’ Ball, held in Banff, a fitting tribute to one of Canada’s great mountaineers.
