New Discovery Kits!

This year the Rossland Museum will be adding 4 new discovery kits to their learning program.  The kits include materials to complete activities, lessons, and experiments.  They come with their own programmer guide, examples, curriculum connections and are easily transportable in hard carrying cases.

Each kit has it’s own theme:

  1. Rock Detectives Discovery Box: This kit contains several rocks sample kits and activities to help young rockhounds get to know their geological world.

  2. Basketry of the Region Discovery Box: The focus of this box related to the making of, design and use of indigenous baskets from the region.  This kit contains traditional recipes, a small sample basket, and matching activities.

  3. Ecology Discovery Box: This kit helps the users explore our local Natural history.  Make a clinometer to measure the height of a tree.  Identify invasive species and learn about local fauna.

  4. Drawn to History: The purpose of this kit is to provide the users with access to historical objects from our educational collection, through an artistic lens.  This kit will also introduce students to pictographs from Arrow Lakes, Slocan Lake and Christina Lake while discovering the natural materials that the Sinixt people used for pigments.

These kits were funded in part by the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance.

We are just wrapping up the finishing touches on these cases before they will be available to borrow from the museum.  If your organization or school would like to borrow them please send us an email at info@rosslandmuseum.ca
