Calling all bibliophiles! Our next Senior Workshop is all about basic book repairs. Join our Collections Manager in this hands-on repair workshop to learn what you can do to preserve your favourite books and repair them if needed. Following this 2-hour workshop, you'll take home the skills and supplies to do basic repairs and stabilization techniques to better take care of your literary collection. We'll also be covering some of the common issues with books and what you can do to prevent them.

Have a book or two in your collection that needs some minor repairs? Fantastic! Bring it with you and do the repairs with the support and guidance of our staff. If you don't have any books that need repairs, you can practice with some of ours!

Space is limited, so RSVP with Sara at artifacts @rosslandmuseum.ca or call 250-362-7722.

This series is supported in part by the Government of Canada.

Resources

South Kootenay Seniors

‘South Kootenay Seniors’ is the regional age-friendly initiative between the City of Trail, Village of Warfield and City of Rossland. The three communities are working together to support local seniors and business and organizations that provide services for seniors. On its website, you can find information on resources for seniors and upcoming events.

Rossland Age-Friendly

Rossland Age-friendly is a program run by the City of Rossland with the goal of helping people age well in our community. We are here to provide information and support local business and service groups that offer services or programs for seniors. We also run some activities to help fill in the gaps where we see a need such as organizing health and wellness workshops or social activities. Feedback and ideas are always welcome! Contact us at age.friendly@rossland.ca or 250-368-1896.

BC211 Safe Seniors, Strong Communities

The Safe Seniors, Strong Communities program matches seniors (65+) who need support with non-medical essentials, to volunteers in their community who are willing to help.

Available services include:

  • Grocery shopping and delivery

  • Meal preparation and delivery

  • Prescription pickup and delivery

  • Phone and/or virtual friendly visits

When you register as a senior or a volunteer, your contact information is shared with the United Way’s Better at Home agencies. Those agencies make the connections between seniors and volunteers in the community.

Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy

Literacy programs for adults and seniors aim to strengthen and enhance the literacy skills that participants have gained throughout their lives.

We offer a wide variety of free programs that support the learning of:

  • reading

  • writing

  • numeracy

  • technology

  • workplace and other essential skills

Adult and senior literacy programs are designed to focus on each participant's unique needs. Elevating literacy skills helps to open the doors to new opportunities whether it's finding employment, entering a training program or using digital technology. Building literacy skills builds confidence to step out and try something new.

No matter where you are in your learning journey, CBAL can help!

Senior programs are funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Province of BC.
