Our Community Portal is Live!

Have you ever wondered what artifacts the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre has in storage? What about the history of the china set that is on display in the parlour?

Well, you're in luck!

We're so excited to announce that our collection has moved online!

Over the past year, our collections department and volunteers have been hard at work getting our collections database ready for you to explore in our Community Portal. From our extensive map collection to our newest donations, our Online Museum Collections Database allows you to step behind the curtain and see the breadth and wonders of the RMDC collection.

The system is easy to use and allows you to keyword search, browse the collections, or see a selection of random artifacts. Each record provides visitors with a description, measurements, date, photographs, and history if it is known.

While we're so happy to have you explore our collection, we could also use your help! We're always looking for help in expanding our knowledge of Rossland's history; this is no different for our object history. If you know about the use of an artifact or have information on the user or associated team/business/event, you can submit a feedback form for an individual artifact.

For example, we have Steve Chorney's Rossland Warriors jacket in the collection but do not necessarily know the Rossland Warriors' complete history. You could help us build that history! Personal stories and recollections help us contextualize and humanize the artifacts when we display them.

We can't wait to hear your feedback!

New artifacts will be added monthly, so if there is something that you are interested in (like our ski collection), check back at a later date to see if there are any updates. A database station is available in the RMDC Entrance Gallery for those visitors that wish to explore the collection on-site or need help navigating the system.

This project was funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Department of Canadian Heritage and Columbia Basin Trust and Heritage BC through the Built Heritage Grants.
