Lars Baggenstos

Lars Baggenstos was born right at the Coastline of the North Sea in Germany, and until he was five years of age he smelt the salty sea every day. During that time he was already surrounded by drawing and painting people. Karl Neumann, his grandfather, was a landscape painter and Lars spend hours watching him mixing turpentine with oil colours. His father, Markus Baggenstos, worked as a drawing and sculpting teacher at the crafts and recreational center in Bremerhaven, Germany. It was during this time that Lars picked up his first pencil. When he was five, he moved with his parents to Switzerland. It was there that he discovered his passion for forests, mountains and everything living in them. During his elementary and highschool years, drawing was his way to escape into the realm of wildife, mystery and nature. But it was in school that he discovered his other creative field, sculpting. After he finished highschool, enrollment in the Woodcarving School of Brienz came quite naturally. He spent four years In the heart of the Bernese Alps learning the tricks of the wood carving trade. After five years of working in sculpting in mediums from wood to stainless steel, the urge to broaden his skills led him to the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zürich University of Fine Arts). He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts ZFH in Visual Communication with a specialization in Scientific Visualization. Since then, he has worked as a freelance illustrator for clients including the Naturhistorisches Museum of Basel (Basel Natural History Museum) and Tourism Uri, and as a sculptor for theater and movie sets. His love for the great outdoors brought him in 2015 to Rossland BC, Canada, where he currently lives with his wife (who is Canadian) and dog. When Lars is not at his drawing table, he is swinging a chainsaw, paddling turbulent whitewater or tracking down animals in the backcountry. Boreal Booch & Crafty condiments - Renée Marceau

Moving to BC resulted in having to relearn the terminology of flora. The discovery of local species and foraging became the goal on many walks. Soon enough handfuls turned into kilos: blossoms, buds, and berries became jelly, syrup, pickle, jam, relish, chutney. Many jars were to be exchanged with locals for objects, food, and services; their appreciation for these unique and unknown flavours led me to our community markets where I'm happy to share my crafty condiments.
Over 20 different flavours available in small quantities in September.

BLunde Art

"I was raised in the Kootenays where I was fully immersed in everything outdoor. This has reflected directly into my artwork. As a child, I painted primarily in watercolour, with Ingrid Baker as an instructor; continuing to create through high school, I began to experiment more with acrylic, switching over almost entirely. The canvas-building piece of this medium particularly intrigued me as I built the frames, stretched the canvas, then primed and sanded repeatedly. I feel present in every aspect of these pieces, from the original experience where the reference photo was taken, to the final product that I constructed by hand. Through acquiring my degree in Medical Biochemistry from UBC, I found painting to be a welcome outlet that quickly flourished into a passion. During these years, I spent many study breaks in the forest (biking, hiking, or skiing) where I found I could be entirely present with a different type of focus. I hope that through the adoring perspectives that fuel these paintings, others can reflect and appreciate the natural wonders that fill the interior of British Columbia, with particular focus on the city that has my heart, Rossland."
