We love putting on community events! Creating a fun and welcoming space to be a community hub — “offering varied experiences for education, enjoyment, reflection and knowledge sharing,” as the International Council of Museums definition puts it — is core to what a museum does, and it’s one of our favourite roles to play in our community. Our events are nearly always free of charge, so we can be an inclusive and accessible venue for everyone in our community. However, this also means that our events operate at a financial loss, in spite of generous contributions from various local funders, organizations, and individuals. Events take a lot of staff time to pull together and expenses continue to rise - including fees, insurance, and supplies! We recently learned that we need to hire a professional flagging company for our annual Halloween event along with all future community events, per Ministry of Transportation and Transit requirements. This will impact the budget of our events considerably. We are seeking donations to help cover these extra costs so we can continue to host these great events on our multifaceted site.
