Summer Updates from the Rossland Museum 🌞

The Museum is open from 10 am to 6 pm seven days a week.

Guided tours of the outdoor exhibits are available at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm - included in admission!

New Permanent Exhibit: Sinixt Homeland

On June 21st, National Indigenous Peoples Day, we were honoured to formally open a new permanent exhibit: snʕay̓ckstx tmxʷúlaʔxʷ or Sinixt Homeland, now on display in the Museum’s Entrance Gallery.

Rehousing Our Glass Plate Negatives

Thanks to support from the LeRoi Community Foundation, we have recently been able to rehouse our collection of glass plate negatives and slides! Read about the twists and turns of this project.

BC Day 2025 at the Rossland Museum

Spend BC Day at the Rossland Museum with lots of fun for the whole family! Take advantage of our assortment of lawn games, including SpikeBall, croquet, and more! Try your luck at gold panning or enjoy our spectacular bubble wands. Explore our outdoor exhibits - climb up a caboose or into a fire truck! Tired of the heat? Cool down inside with crafts, activities, and a scavenger hunt.

We took a deep dive into the story of our Swimming Pool! Planned, constructed, and completed in 1932 — in the depths of the Great Depression — the pool was made possible by local committees and volunteers and has been enjoyed by Rosslanders ever since. Check out our website for the whole story.

Volunteer Call-Out

We have many projects on the go, so we can always use volunteer support! Here are some current projects:

Dismantle an exhibit case — we’re moving around exhibits to prepare for our Renewal Project, and some cases have got to go! Help us dismantle them.
Transcribe oral history interviews — our ongoing Rossland Memories project has a back-log of interviews to be added to our website. Sign up to listen to past interviews and check that our transcription software is picking up on all those Rossland names!
Help with landscaping/yard work — we’re working to improve the pathway to the Upper Level of the property! Now we need help with moving rocks, picking up bits of broken glass, and weeding the site.
Build a Rube Goldberg interactive — we want a cause-and-effect machine (think of the game Mousetrap!) for our new programming space. Can you design and build one?

Mid‑Autumn Art & Colouring Contest

Young artists (ages 3–12) are invited to bring vintage-inspired lanterns to life in the Love at Mid‑Autumn 2025 contest, hosted by Fête Chinoise and supported by our friends over at the Chinese Canadian Museum. Families can grab printed colouring and drawing sheets here at the museum to submit online or you can print off the sheets right from home. Entries are due by September 20, 2025.

The Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre is thrilled to announce a significant milestone: a $1,000,000 grant from the Province of British Columbia through the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP).

Historic Places Days Photo Contest

The National Trust is having a photo contest! You can enter by visiting historic places participating in the event (yes, that includes the Rossland Museum! - check out the full list of places) and sharing a photo, selfie, or short video of the place! Photo/video entries will be placed in a random draw to win one of two $500 cash prizes! If your entry wins, $500 will be awarded to you and $500 to the historic site featured in your post! Deadline: July 20th, 2025
