The Museum is open year-round! Summer Hours: open 10 am to 6 pm, seven days a week. Guided tours of the outdoor exhibits (included in admission) at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm daily through June, July, and August.

Wishing a Fond Farewell to Fiona!

We are bidding a heartfelt farewell to our Operations & Marketing Manager, Fiona Lane, as she steps into an exciting new chapter as the new Executive Director for the Mackin House Museum with the Coquitlam Heritage Society!

During her time with us, Fiona has been a vital force behind the scenes - juggling operations, elevating our marketing, and almost single-handedly keeping many of us sane. Her dedication, sharp organization, and incredible work ethic have made a lasting impact on our organization and the Rossland community.

While we are sad to see her go, we couldn’t be prouder or more excited for her. The team in Coquitlam is gaining a truly exceptional leader, and we can't wait to hear of all of the new adventures she'll inevitably get up to.

Fiona, thank you for your tireless hard work, your humour and enthusiasm, and for being such a wonderful teammate. We wish you every success in your new role!

Golden City Days at the Museum

10 am - 5 pm Saturday-Sunday, September 12-13

We’re thrilled to be taking part in another Rossland Golden City Days weekend of festivities! Downtown, look for our float in the parade and check out our booth at the Fall Fair! Here at the museum, we'll join the celebrations with special open-by-donation days from 10 AM to 5 PM Saturday and Sunday, September 12-13th, featuring special crafts, games, scavenger hunts, and gold panning. We'll have guided outdoor tours at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM so you can learn all about our town's golden past... and some of the not-so-shiny bits, too!

Did you ever wonder how Rossland’s 1890s gold boom helped shape the Toronto Stock Exchange?

As the Red Mountain gold camps boomed, investors in the US, Eastern Canada, and the UK looked for ways to profit. Some of this investment paid off in tangible infrastructure like the railways, hydroelectric dams, and the Trail Smelter that were built in the mid 1890s. Other investors (who by this era, included not only the wealthy elite, but also men and women who were more financially precarious, and looking for an escape from the depression of the early 1890s) began speculating on shares in mining companies.

Everyone was talking about the Rossland mines! To get in on the action, the Toronto Stock Exchange began to offer its very first unlisted mining shares. Today, mining interests dominate the Toronto Stock Exchange, which offers more mining company options than any other market in the world!

We have free sunscreen!

We’re excited to announce that we have new sunscreen dispensers! Thanks to a partnership with Save Your Skin Foundation, we can now offer free SPF 30 sunscreen to the public – available outside the front entrance to the Museum and at the front desk. Stop by to check it out and save your skin!

Save Your Skin Foundation (SYSF) is a patient-led organization dedicated to the fight against non-melanoma skin cancers, melanoma, and ocular melanoma through education, advocacy, and awareness initiatives across Canada.
