Echoes of War: Remembrance Day Film Festival

Tuesday, November 11th | 12 - 5 pm

This Remembrance Day, we're hosting a mini film festival to explore the lasting impact of the Second World War. To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the conclusion of the global conflict, we'll show five films from the National Film Board of Canada that will examine the themes of memory, loss, and the legacy of one of the world's largest conflicts. Learn about the 1939-45 war through the diverse stories of Chinese-Canadian soldiers, Canadian air force pilots, an Auschwitz survivor, German POWs in Canada, and an expedition to recover the remains of an RCAF crew's fatal plane crash in Myanmar.

Drop by for just one film, or stay to see them all! Entry by donation.

Volunteer Highlight

A huge thank-you to Monica and John Olesky for driving our newest donation from Calgary to the Museum! We are so excited to be adding this BC mountain goat to our collection - we’re looking forward to having an example of this beautiful local species and incorporating an artifact to represent the Sinixt captíkʷɬ (creation story) of how the huckleberry came to Kettle Falls. Thank you Monica and John!

Central School Report

Monthly report for Miss Georgina Agnew’s class, January 31, 1903
Central School was built in 1898 (between St. Paul and Monte Christo Streets)
The school was closed after a 1917 fire, and was replaced by MacLean School

2025.13.1 - Shirley Browne (nee Hamilton) art book

Contains 18 pages of drawings/paintings done by Shirley Hamilton in 1948 during her time at Cook Avenue School
Cook Avenue School was located on Cook Avenue between Davis and Monita streets
The school opened in 1901. It served as both elementary and high school from 1918 - 1952
Closed in 2002 and demolished in 2007

Community Quandaries

When Red Mountain Ski Club first opened, we’ve heard that the upstairs had dormitories where out-of-town visitors could stay - 25¢ a night, and you’d provide your own sleeping bag!
