Winter Programs

Join us for an eco-tastic day at the Museum for the February 27th Pro D Day! Your young explorer will need their curiosity, keen observation skills, and puzzle-solving abilities to tackle another mystery that's taken over the museum. Along the way, they’ll participate in science and art activities and outdoor play to explore the roles that native species play in our ecosystem.

Pre-Registration Required. Bring warm clothes -- we'll have at least an hour of outdoor activities.

WHO: 6–10 years
WHEN: February 27th, 9 am to 3 pm (drop-off 8:45; pick-up between 3 and 4)
COST: $40.00 regular, $35.00 for members

What a trip! Thursday, January 29th at 6 pm, join us at the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre as author-adventurer Dan Grec takes us on a journey with the tale of his cross-hemisphere adventure.

Travelling Exhibit: Art of Migration

Join us at 6 pm, Tuesday, February 10th for an opening reception for the Art of Migration exhibit. This new touring exhibition is presented in partnership with the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy

2026 BC Heritage Week

Join us in celebrating Rossland’s heritage this BC Heritage Week, February 17-22nd! We’ll be open with pay-what-you-can admission by donation all week. Stop by the Rossland Public Library for a special BC Heritage Week-themed outreach exhibit: Just a Pinch!

2026 Family Day

Bundle up and bring the whole crew to the Museum for a fun-filled BC Family Day celebration on Sunday, February 15, between 10 am and 4 pm! Enjoy a playful, cozy day outdoors with something for all ages — perfect for making Family Day memories together!

Seniors’ Workshop: Photograph Care

Learn how to handle, store, and preserve your family's photographs for future generations! We’ll explore storage methods, documentation, repairs, digitization techniques, and what could put your photos at risk. Feel free to bring some of your photos for us to take a closer look at - we could help tailor some solutions for you and your collection!

Outreach Exhibit at Curiosity Clothing

Have you heard about Rossland’s masquerades on ice? These large costume contests often took place at the beginning of the Winter Carnival and could draw crowds to rival those of the sporting events. Our new outreach exhibit Expression in Disguise: The Rossland Winter Carnival Masquerade on Ice will be on display at Curiosity Clothing and Gifts until January 30th!

Yodel Inn was built by Sammy Martin, Windy Williams, Vic Walker, Gilbert Page, and Ches Edwards in 1944

The group was members of the Trail Ski Club
Cabin is located along present-day Rino’s Run
People would make a weekend out of visiting the Yodel Inn
Windy's son Wake is the caretaker of the cabin today
Unlike some other cabins in the Rossland Ski Area, the Yodel Inn isn’t open to the general public.

Cabin was located on skier’s right of what is now known as Rino’s Run

Bob Bisset and Pat Archibald managed and used the Oakum Inn in the 1940s
Pat Archibald's kids, Paul and Chris, and Darrel Ganzert made some repairs in 1967
Cabin was destroyed by a falling tree in the late-1960s

Rossland Memories Updates: Shirley Vance

Back in 2019, we sat down with Shirley Vance, née Tindall, (1932-2023) to talk about her life in Rossland. Topics include skiing, Alice Jesse, the Grey Mountain Grind, Rossland's Chinese residents, and growing up in a mining community. Hear the interview on our YouTube channel!

Community Quandaries

We've been told that in the 1960s or 70s, it was common practice to wear a wig, instead of a toque, when you went skiing! Does anyone remember this or have photographs of their wig? We're dying to see them!

Community Updates

Trail Harmony Choir rehearses weekly on Wednesdays at 7pm at the Trail United Church (1300 Pine Avenue). If you are interested in singing in a community choir, please come and join us. For more information, contact Liz Stephens at (250) 512-8021.

New Rossland Memories Interview!

Last July, we sat down for a chat with Red Mountain Racers Brian Fry, Chris McIver, Don Stevens, Derek Trussler, and coach Grant Rutherglen. The result was a warm, funny, sometimes poignant account of their years growing up and racing together — here at Red Mountain, with the BC Ski Team, and on the Canadian National Ski Team.
