FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ROSSLAND, BC – The Spirit of Red Social Club supports the Rossland Museum Renewal project with a generous donation of $2000 to close the funding gap needed for Phase I.
The Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre (RMDC) has received a very generous donation of $2000 from the Spirit of Red Social Club to close the funding gap needed to proceed with Phase I construction. The Spirit of Red Social Club is a non-profit society made up of the members of the Red Mountain community. President, Liz Nesbitt, says, “Our goals have been to re-establish, promote, and perpetuate some of the social events that used to occur in the Red Mountain community and to gather, collect, and protect historical photos, film, and stories of Red Mountain’s history. Spirit of Red is contributing to the Renewal Project to support the museum in its efforts to do the same sort of work.”
With this donation as well as the final sales of the Lily May Heritage Raffle, the City of Rossland has approved the hiring of NDB Construction Ltd. out of Castlegar to take on the Phase I construction contract of $413,276. The Museum will remain open to the public Wednesday to Saturdays 12pm to 5pm through Winter Carnival and officially close as of February 1st. The construction period will be 16 to 18 weeks long, so the grand opening is planned just in time for the summer season in June.
The Rossland Museum volunteers have been working on packing up the renovation areas, including the entire Archives, Visitor Centre, and Gift Shop for a few months now. “We’re very excited to be going to construction after so much time and effort from our partners, stakeholders, and volunteers,” stated Libby Martin, RMDC President, “It has been a long time coming!”
The Lily May Heritage Raffle continues until January 28th and tickets can be purchased at the museum, The Office, or Mountain Nugget Chocolate. For more details on the Renewal Project and fundraising opportunities, including Mindful Mountain Yoga’s Karma Yoga in February, see the website.
